Avatar 3D . . . My thoughts.

One word comes to mind after seeing Avatar in 3D.

HOLYSHITWOW!

Okay. So that was three words in one. Whatever.

That movie was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Seriously amazing. No joke.

I know you've probably heard that from a lot of people, because...well, ya know... it was amazing.

But I, my friend, want to tell you that this movie rocked my socks. There was soooo many times that I caught myself wanting to be IN the movie. Not acting, but actually living as one of them. It was THAT good.

It filled me with so many emotions, not only because of the story line, but because of the talent that went into making this movie a true masterpiece.

My eyes were watery because of the exquisite beauty of it all. My heart was racing because of the vivid imagery. My jaw tense, brows furrowed and fists clenched during the fierce fight scenes.

I WILL see this movie again. Maybe in the IMAX theater next time so that I can see it on the "big" screen. I chose to see it in Digital 3D the first time though because I did my research beforehand and read all about how much better the colors are in Digital.

PLEASE see this movie if you haven't already. I will be shocked if you don't like it. Just sit back, relax, and let your mind go. Allow yourself to believe.

You big twit.

Obviously I haven't been posting. Too much going on. Entirely too busy. Moved about 1300+ miles away from where I've lived my whole life. Am getting adjusted to the huge weather change. Got a promotion at work...more stress, barely a boost in pay...but a learning experience and will pay off in the long run (I hope).

Annnnyway... Since it's hard for me to actually find the time to sit down and type out a blog...I decided to join...(wait for it...wait for it)...twitter. Yeah. Always told myself that there would be no way in hell I was going to join that thing...but I did. ::sigh::

So please feel free to "follow me" if you feel so inclined. =)

Summertime.

Went down to the Keys this weekend. Spent a lil time in Key Largo and then went to Holiday Isle in Islamorada to bask under the scorching hot sun while sippin' on a Rum Runner next to the ocean and pool...and then switchin' over to drinking Presidente beer....annnnd then back to Rum Runners. Needless to say, I was buzzed...and sunburned. =) MUCH fun!

Then we went to dinner at Snappers. For an appetizer we had fried lobster bites (so good!) and then for my entree I had cedar planked salmon with a basil cream sauce, with sauteed zucchini & squash and a baked sweet potato. MmmMMmmGood.

Nothing crazy to report. Was a pretty chill weekend. Which is good because I was sicksicksick this week, and I think being out in the fresh air and getting some sun really helped me feel waaaay better.

STILL have to start packing up the house and get us ready for our big move to the Northeast. Only 2 months to go (MAX!)...and I'm a procrastinator. Oy vey.

I live for the weekend.

Last night = Went to a wine tasting, then to have some sushi & Asahi, then a cool little dive bar with a nice selection of "fancy" beers. St. Bernardus Prior 8 = Yummy!

Tonight = Marlins/Dodgers game and hittin up a bar (or three) in South Beach

Tomorrow = Slowcooker Sunday & relaxing/recuperating =)

Please, God, let me win the lottery so everyday will feel like a weekend!

I suck at blogging.

Seriously. Why did I even start a blog if I'm only gonna update this thing every couple/few months??????????
Sheesh. I'm a slacker. LOL

Annnnyway. Husband and I are getting ready to make a big move out of state. I've lived here since I was four. This is going to be a HUGE change for me. Sunny winters to freezing cold winters. Should be interesting. BUT the huge plus will be that I'll be able to do some shopping for winter clothes. And what girl doesn't like...scratch that...LOVE shopping??!! Okay maybe there's a few out there who don't love it...but I am certainly NOT one of 'em. Shopping and me are besties fo' lyfe. =)

I'd like to add a couple opinions about couple things...

FIRST. Drew Peterson, Troy Ryan Bellar, Ervin Lupoe, Christopher Wood, William Parente, Billy Hardy, Robert Farquharson, etc. What the &%$#@ is wrong with you people??!!! I don't understand what in the hell would make someone kill their entire family. Seriously. I don't get it. Fine....kill yourself. But your FAMILY??????!! It's disgusting. Really, really disgusting.

SECOND. Octomom, Lindsay, Angelina+Brad+Jennifer, Keifer, Carrie Prejean, Rihanna+Chris Brown, Paula Abdul, etc. I'm tired of hearing about you. I'm tired of seeing you all over the internet. I'm tired of seeing you on my television. Period.

Okay. That's all I've got for now.

Oh yes.....one more thing.... Wine Tastings = My new addiction. =)

GREAT Live Music + Comedy@ Improv + Tasty Beverages + Good Food + Sports = PERFECT weekend

I cannot begin to tell you exactly how excited I am that I will be seeing/hearing Big Head Todd & the Monsters perform live tomorrow night.

The first (and only) time I have seen them perform, was back around '99 at a club I bartended at. Marlboro (yeah...the nasty cigarette) held a "secret show" there. The only way you could get in the door was to have a certain amount of Marlboro Miles. No one who was coming to the show knew exactly what band they were going to see. There couldn't have been more than a hundred people there. It was AWESOME. It was so private...so close-up... It was, by far, one of the best shows I have ever seen/heard. Marlboro also had Cheap Trick & Soul Asylum play there for their "secret shows"....but as good as those bands were...they didn't come close to Big Head Todd.

Along with seeing them tomorrow night...I'll be seeing one of my favorite comedians, Mitch Fatel, perform @ the Improv this weekend...and hitting up a festival on Sunday...and eating steak, drinking beer & watching sports on Monday night. Ahhhh...the life... =)

Raw. Green. Vegetables......... Ugh.

Soooo..I ate so much over the holidays that I decided to go on a diet...and to start it BEFORE the New Year so that it's not really a New Year's resolution....(which I break every year)....it's an end-of-year resolution...and I've already lost 3 lbs. (or at least that what the fancy shmancy scale told me this morning. - - p.s. I started the diet yesterday morning) So yeah...lost 3 lbs in 1 day. Not bad. I'm VERY curious to see what the scale says tomorow morning.

Okay...so here's the diet.

For FIVE days...
Eat ONLY - - RAW GREEN VEGETABLES and LEAN MEAT

NOTHING ELSE.

NO salt.
NO sugar.
NO carbs.
NO dairy.

Lemme tell ya....it's BORING. and I don't think I'm gonna want to eat anything remotely resembling a raw green vegetable for a LONG time. =Þ

My district manager at my job did this diet...lost a good bit of weight.
She looks AWESOME.

Hopefully I will too! =)

Next Monday = P90X (look it up)

Please pass the potatoes. And gravy. And turkey. And stuffing. And cranberries. And pumpkin pie... NOW.

I had a wretched, horrible, horrendous day at work today.

I'll just leave it at that.

BUT, tomorrow IS Thanksgiving...and so I suppoooooooose I should be thankful I even HAVE a job...considering the economy and such.

I guess I could also be thankful I don't have leprosy.

Oh, aren't the holidays wonderful? LOL

Okay...enough being drab.

I AM thankful for many, many, MANY things...which I won't bore you with.

I shall only say that changes are once again coming.

I can feel it.

And damn it feels good to be a gangsta. =)

Turtles.

This morning...on my way to work...I'm driving down the street in neighborhood...and there's a turtle attempting to cross the road. I pull my car to the side of the road...get out...walk over to the turtle...lean down to pick it up...and it starts............PEEING. So...I go back to my car...get a plastic bag out of the trunk...wrap it over the back end of the turtle...and pick it up. I start carrying it over to the other side of the street...and whattayaknow...the lil' shit started peeing AGAIN...but this time...it came shooting out of it's hind end...all down my leg...onto my foot.

#@$&!!!!!!!!

Needless to say...I did get the turtle to safety...but whathehell!?! I didn't know they peed when they were frightened!!!

Oy vey.......

MiniUpdateButNotReallyMoreLikeVentingAndOtherCrap.

I just want to say that:

  1. I'm really happy that this election is coming to a close.
  2. I'm sick of getting texts from my friends/acquaintances telling me to "VOTE FOR _(enter name of candidate)_". It's annoying. I know who I want for President and no matter who you tell me you think I should vote for, it's not going to change my vote. Sorry, hombre.
  3. My left eye has been twitching on and off again since yesterday morning. Mostly when I'm at work too. Hmmmm... perhaps I'm getting too stressed out at work??? Maaaaaybeeeee????? Mmmmmhhhmmm...
  4. Still haven't won the lottery. Bah Humbug.
  5. Have made some fancy-shmancy purchases lately that I'm super excited about. A new chair & ottoman for my living room....some shoes...some clothes... ya know...the NECESSITIES! =) A woman can never have too many shoes, clothes, or places to sit comfortably in her home. Haaaaa!
  6. Seriously. Ben & Jerry's has this flavor ice cream called Dublin Mudslide. It's effin AMAZING. I have been unable to find it ANYWHERE. It's been annoying. Haven't had it in approx. a year.......UNTIL....I just found out that on Ben & Jerry's site....you can LOCATE A FLAVOR. Yes. They have a FLAVOR LOCATOR. &%$#@*^!!!!!

UNBELIEVABLE.... http://www.benjerry.com/our_products/flavor_locator/

I could pee my jeans I'm so happy right now!!! (Okay...that was a slight exaggeration. But only SLIGHT.)

Dimitri & Olga......the voicemails.

Listen to actual voicemails:
"http://theshermanfoundation.blogspot.com/2008/06/some-loser-douchbags-phone-messages-to.html" [The Sherman Foundation]

(From jezebel.com)
Once upon a time a guy, we'll call him "Dmitri," became obsessed with a woman named Olga. The romance was passionate and literary and many fond and fiery words were exchanged. Well folks, just over a century later history just about repeated itself, when a new Olga caught the eye of another, equally passionate Dimitri, one recent night near the San Francisco Marina. They spoke for no more than two minutes — just long enough for Olga to bestow upon Dimitri a business card and an abiding lust. But sadly, readers, ours is an era of constant unceasing multi-modal communication. Texts and emails and voicemails are left; deadlines, implied and explicit, are imposed; ultimatums are delivered. One almost has to wonder: is there time in such an age for true lasting passion to simmer? The outcome is unknown. But two voicemails left by this Dmitri for the "elegant" object of his desire do not portend a happy future. The transcripts — a bit is lost in the translation, such as his distinctively douchetacular pronunciations of "assume" and "man" — appear after the jump.

Message 1:

Hey Olga, it's Dimitri. Sorry I had to leave such a rushed message with you when we met the other day. I just wanted to quickly give you my phone number, and needed to get the heck out of the area. In any event, I thought I had better leave you a more detailed message and explain why I approached you. I am single. I have no trouble meeting women; I mean, women approach me six or seven times a day. But I'm extremely particular about what I like. You're an extremely elegant woman. I couldn't take my eyes off you, and your friends were very jealous — even if they say they weren't, they were envious of the fact that I approached you, and I was very taken by you. Elegant women are very rare. I'm Greek and I'm extremely particular about what I like. So I'm giving you an opportunity here. I don't know if you picked up the message on the weekend but I'm working on a movie script so I'll be doing that all weekend…

This looks like a land line, and if it is you may not get the message till Monday. But when you do, call me and we'll get together for coffee or drinks, and let the romance begin. You looked very taken aback by my approach, and I hope that wasn't timidness, I hope it was just shock at being approached so directly. Because I don't really date timid women, because I'm a very direct, very passionate, very assertive man, and I want a woman who is very independent and strong. So… we'll talk about that, but I just wanted to formally introduce myself. I leave the ball in your court. You call me as soon as you have the courage to. Okay, Olga? Talk to you soon, bye.

Message 2:

Hi there, Olga it's Dimitri calling again, the guy from the street.I left you a message several days ago you said you were interested. Now, here's the way I work. I don't like leaving second messages but I like you, you're a very elegant woman, you're very attractive, but, you know, I don't play that game. I know your friends tell you not to return calls; you're playing games like you see in stupid TV shows. So here's how it's gonna work. It is now 4:30 on Wednesday. Now I'll assume, I'll assume that you've already left work, because, you know, some people leave work early, so I'll grant you that. But if I don't receive a phone call back from you by 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon I'm no longer interested and I'm going to erase your number. I don't play games like that. I'm completely single, I'm very intelligent, I'm great in bed, I make great money. Believe it or not, I'm a complete catch. I've only been single four months; I had a long distance relationship for about a year, it's very tough to maintain it like that; there's nothing wrong with me. As a matter of fact I'm one of the few men in the city that has nothing wrong with him. So I'm giving you the three o'clock deadline. If I don't hear from you by then, you lose my number — I'm erasing your number right now, so you won't be hearing back from me.

So that's it: three o'clock tomorrow, or you can just completely forget it.

Now I understand if you've got other issues, maybe you're not playing games, I don't know… maybe you were abused in childhood?…Maybe your mother has cancer, and you're going to chemo…maybe you're just a person who's extremely frightened or has an anxiety disorder, maybe you're on some medication for that…I don't know, there could be another issue that I'm not aware of. But nobody says "Call me," hands a person a business card and then doesn't return calls. It's extremely passive aggressive. You should actually look that up, passive-aggressive personality disorder. You let me know, if you've got issues, psychological issues, if you're on any sort of medication for anxiety or depression, I'm not interested. But if you're psychologically normal, and you haven't called me because there's been some horrible thing that's happened in your life that's prevented you from returning my calls, that's fine. But otherwise? Don't call me. Okay, bye.

IDIOT. I want to punch this toolbag.

I want to hear jazz with my eyes closed, and dig my toes into the sand...

"I want health and healing and holding close. I want similar souls. I want passionate yeses. I want to hear jazz with my eyes closed, and dig my toes into the sand dancing. I want to climb to the summit and yell and sleep under the stars. I want to laugh my head off and play marbles and sleep in and eat croissants in bed with butter and marmalade and spill coffee and wear lace and trip holding your hand because I am listening so closely." -Sabrina Ward Harrison

I love, love loooovvvvvvve it. Yes, I do.

Buzzed? Perhaps.

Okay. So I got a new job.

Wait. Maybe I should tell you that I now have THREE jobs.

MMMMMMmmmmmhm.

Three.

1-2-3.

2 bartending jobs and 1 office job.

Good times, people. Good times.

Sooooooooooooo...

Yeah. So now I have three jobs and I'm not making BANK, but I'm making just enough to pay the bills, enjoy a gourmet coffee drink every-so-often, and sneak in a clothing shopping spree here and there. (shhhhh.....)

Hubby and I are doing damn good. Which is ALWAYS a good thing. =)

Planning on a mini vacation to Epcot in Orlando for the Food & Wine Festival.
We went last year and it was definitely more fun then I had anticipated.

Again...which is ALWAYS a good GREAT thing.

Haven't been blogging because I just haven't been really into it. I've been lurking a shitload of fashion blogs...and of course Raymi's blog...which isn't about fashion but is about a cool ass chick who I need to hang with sommmmeday...but yeah...back to the fashion stuff...I am getting so damn much inspiration from these fashion blogs. They are helping me with my daily outfits and also in the sense that they inspire me to be more creative in other areas of my life. Allllso...when I feel good in what I am wearing, it makes me have more confidence...which leads to great things.

Did I mention that I got promoted at my new job after only being there for 2.5 weeks?!?!?

Yeah. I guess it works a lil'. ;-)

Okay...I guess that I've covered most of what I need to say. Will cover more later. I have good music to listen to and some deeeeeeee-licious pinot noir to consume.

xoxoxo

Chicago

I'll be in Chicago for 5 days next week...from the Wed the 21st til Mon the 26th.

Any suggestions on places to shop/eat/drink?

I'm pretty excited to go to H&M since we don't have one where I live. I went to the Chicago location last time I was there and bought a bag full of really great finds. Hoping to do the same this time.

Soooo...gimme some ideas! =)

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Well, you can't dictate the way, the way I'm gonna feel...No matter what, no matter what I'm forced to see...I'll be the one free of jealousy

I went to Barnes & Nobles yesterday. I was there for almost 4 hours. Yes. FOUR hours. Started off in their Starbucks cafe. Purchased an iced venti vanilla soy latte. Yummy! =) Then I was off to do some reading. The fashion magazines easily take up most of my time. Then it was on to books about Paris. Then to the self-improvement section. I spent more than I would have liked to...but whatever. Here's what I purchased:

Berlitz French Phrase Book & Dictionary
Eyewitness Travel Guides: Paris
The Success Principles: How to get from where you are to where you want to be (By Jack Canfield)
The Modern Girl's Guide to Life (By Jane Buckingham)
Lucky Magazine, May '08

Why I bought these books:

My hubby and I are planning a trip to Paris for this September (maybe October) and I really need to start reading up on the city and learn the language. You have NO IDEA how excited I am for this trip. This is something I have been dreaming of for YEARS. =)

As for the Success Principles book...I have so many different things that I want to accomplish and I need some advice...motivation...to get off my ass and make it all happen.

The Modern Girl book...well I've been wanting that book for awhile now. =) I'm such a frickin' girlie-girl.

Lucky Magazine is like my little monthly shopping bible. I love that magazine.

Lately I've been finding that I am more-than-ever obsessed with fashion. I always go thru phases with stuff that I'm interested in. But this one has really hit me hard and I just feel like living in the town that I do is just holding me back in some ways. Take for instance a couple weeks ago. I went to a nightclub that is owned by an 80's/90's rockstar. The whole theme of the place is aimed around the type of rock music he played. Okay, now for the fashion part. I had seen a picture of a very fashion forward girl online in her blog and loved the outfit she had on. I decided to recreate the outfit and wear it out that night. Basically the outfit consisted of a white deep v-neck tshirt (untucked), a short blue demin vest (worn open), some longer chain necklaces, a few bangles, a fitted black mini skirt, black tights and black knee-high stiletto boots. The outfit itself was pretty basic with the colors being black and white. The denim vest was definitely from the late 80's, early 90's. I thought it looked good. =) A girl and her boyfriend standing behind me at the bar didn't like my outfit so much and...laughed at me. Mmmmhm. Okay...seriously...WTF? They were standing a matter of INCHES away from me and were looking directly at me (more so my vest) and snickering to each other. %$#@& It seriously took everything in me to not punch them both right then and there. I quickly reminded myself that I was dressing for ME, not to please others. This is my problem with fashion sometimes. Okay...wait...it's not with FASHION...it's with the area I live in. If you don't dress like everyone else, you're a weirdo. But who the fuck wants to look like evvvveryone else? I've always been the kind of person who will like a trend, but won't really wear it until the trend has passed a bit. I'll never stop wearing something just because some people think it's out-of-style. If I like it and it fits me and looks good on my body, I'm wearing it for a long time to come. Or I might stash it away and wear it again in a couple years.

I have a feeling I need to live in a place that is more accepting of peoples' individuality.

Yes...definitely.

You've got a lovely way with words. Must be the way you see the world.

Everytime I get home from work, I want to blog about it. BUT, we're not allowed. Apparently there was some chick who had a blog and was all complaining and shit about the place and her coworkers...annnnnnd the owners found out about it...and yep...she was fired. Sooooo...I guess all I'll say is that I love my job (a lot)...but I get more than slightly annoyed with some of the less-than-intelligent people I work with on occasion. And that's all I shall say about that. ;-)

I haven't even been on my Myspace in over two months. Okay, wait...I went to sign onto it two weeks ago, and whattyaknow I forgot my friggin password. So yeah, I woulda broken down and signed on at a month & a half of bein away from that addictive lil site, but like a retard I can't remember the stupid password. Bah humbug.

Still (!!!) haven't found my camera cord. It's making me so crazy. I know it's in this damn house somewhere.

Okay, so here's what I need to work on:
(this is more of a reminder to myself)

  1. Start learning French. Immediately, if not sooner. =) We're supposed to be going to Paris at the end of the year and I think it'd probably be a damn good idea if I knew how to speak the language. (Duh.)
  2. Get my ass back in the gym. I have taken way too much time off from working out and it's time to stop being lazy (!!!)
  3. Finish organizing my closet and build a wall rack thingie for my plethora of necklaces, scarves & belts.
  4. Start cleaning the garage. I have so much damn stuff in there...still in boxes...that I know I don't need and can donate to Goodwill. I really need to get a move on with that project.

Oh yeah...and I watched a really weird movie last night on the Independent Film Channel (IFC). It was called "Crash". Here's the description of the movie on IMDb. I don't think I've ever seen a movie (that wasn't a porn) with so many sex scenes. The whole plot was quite disturbing, but interesting at the same time. Some people really do have some whacked out fetishes, and the one the movie is based around is one I'll never quite understand. To each his own I guess.

Time for me to go do something constructive. Like finishing my closet. But FIRST...a quick run to Starbucks. Mmmmm Mmmmm Good. =)

xoxo
